Canadian Breakfast Pancakes with Spelt

Canadian Pancakes with Spelt

I love to experiment with Spelt flour in general but found it particularly delicious in this recipe for Canadian Pancakes. I used 50/50 but you can, if you wish, utilise 100% Spelt flour. If I had planned these in advance I would have served with slices of banana and maple syrup personally but, having none in, chose to serve with Miel de Caña - I live in Spain and getting my hands on Maple syrup, especially my favourite Canadian Maple syrup, is a rare treat! Ingredients: 50 grams whole … [Read more...]

Toblerone Fondue

toblerone-fondue

Earlier on I provided a recipe for Toberone Cookies we are following up with one almost equally fattening - Toblerone Fondue! Although you can appease your conscience by ensuring you serve a wide and varied selection of fruits with the fondue, I would personally recommend strawberries, seedless grapes, stoned dates, wedges of peeled kiwi, and kumquats just for starters! At least this way you can state categorically it is contributing to your healthy 5-a-day, even if the accompanying dip is a … [Read more...]

Crema de Trufa

Today I purchased my Roscon de Reyes for the Feast of the Epiphany here in Spain. Anyone curious to hearing more about this delightful treat can find the recipe here. Much as I normally swear by homemade pastries over bought the delectable Roscon de Reyes is the only exception to the rule in my book - for me, it just tastes far nicer when purchased from one of the many numerous patisseries. I normally have my Roscon filled with Trufa, a wonderfully delightful chocolate cream. This year … [Read more...]

French Crepes

josselin_crepe_4

French Crepes are delicate pancakes and are the most wonderful pancake. I first experienced when on holiday in Brittany as a child. I adored them, and quickly realised that my own family´s pancake was much more like the traditional french crepe than the British. To this day we do not understand why this was the case - that said, it could have been because my family were into economising rather than any gastromic intent! The following recipe will make around 15 crepes. Ingredients 2 cups … [Read more...]

American Pancakes

I believe that there is a time and place for every type of pancake. American Pancakes are so good on a morning, and they are (for me) the perfect comfort food when accompanied with a large knob of butter and a substantial drizzle of rich sweet maple syrup. One of my favourite breakfast indulgences is what we Brits term as the American Breakfast - where this lovely combination is joined with a couple of rashes of bacon. Delightful! Ingredients 135g/4¾oz plain flour 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp … [Read more...]

Today I am going to provide two of my favourite pancake recipes - British & American. I will also suggest a perfect array of toppings to go with each - both sweet and savoury - to suit your tastes! Firstly we are going to kick off with what our family refer to as "Traditional Pancakes", which are British. Ingredients For the … [Read more...]
